Purpose
The KM Education, Learning & Development SIG was established to investigate and report on issues such as knowledge management competencies, learning objectives, and Chief Knowledge Officers profiles. The KM Education, Learning & Development SIG is a follow-on to the CKO Competency SIG that was Chaired by Dr. Robert Neilson. The CKO Competency SIG focused on developing the role, competencies and attributes of a CKO in a public sector organization.
The Education, Learning & Development SIG provides Federal government employees with access to and information about knowledge management learning opportunities. This is accomplished through the SIG's academic programs, classroom training, and distributed learning such as the training opportunity on December 5, 2001 for virtual learning on "Tempered Radicals: How People Use Difference to Inspire Change at Work." The SIG brings in speakers on the various aspects of KM to aid in the understanding of different points of view and best practices used by the Federal government.
The Education, Learning & Development SIG supplies speakers for KM education to government organizations who are beginning their KM journey. The SIG also attempts to partner with academia and industry associations to ensure certification programs address the 14 learning objectives identified as very important to KM in the government.
